Shivamogga: A 72-year-old man has died due to Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD) in Shivamogga district, marking the fourth death from the infection in the district this year.
The deceased has been identified as Manjappa from Manjinakanu-Hiremane in Sagar taluk.
He was admitted to a hospital on April 4 after suffering from vomiting and diarrhoea. Tests later confirmed KFD infection, following which he was shifted to a hospital in Manipal for advanced treatment. He also had other health complications, and despite treatment, he died on April 8.
So far in 2026, a total of 85 KFD positive cases have been reported in the district. At present, 11 active patients are undergoing treatment in various hospitals.
Health department officials have taken precautionary steps at the village level to prevent the spread of the disease and are closely monitoring active cases.
