Hyderabad: Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) president Kalvakuntla Kavitha said her party will contest all 300 divisions across the three corporations (Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation and Cyberabad Municipal Corporation) in the upcoming polls.
Addressing the TRS Rajadhani Ranabheri meeting at Miyapur on Friday, October 23, she criticised the government for branding Hyderabad as a global city while failing to provide basic amenities such as safe drinking water, proper roads and efficient drainage.
She said residents continue to suffer from mosquitoes and stray dogs, poorly maintained streetlights and inadequate safety and dignity for senior citizens.
“A city famous for its biryani, Irani chai, and pearls is increasingly being associated with mosquitoes and dog-bite incidents,” Kavitha said.
Highlighting the disparity in urban infrastructure, she said that footwear is being sold in air-conditioned showrooms, while vegetable and fish vendors are forced to operate on roadsides.
She demanded air-conditioned carts for vendors, more doctors at Basthi Dawakhanas, and at least one 24-hour hospital in every division.
She also alleged that the Global Investment Summit proposed in December was being built on fake agreements and fictitious investment claims and warned that her party would disrupt the summit unless the government released a white paper on the Rs 6.5 lakh crore in investments it claimed to have secured last year.
Kavitha said Hyderabad is yet to experience development that placed people and their everyday needs at the centre.
She said that people earning Rs 10,000 a month and employees earning Rs 1 lakh both face mounting financial pressures. She attributed rising prices to the depreciation of the rupee and a lack of foresight in government policies.
Expressing concern over the impact of artificial intelligence on IT employment, she said there was no adequate policy to support technology professionals who might lose their jobs. She assured IT employees that the TRS would stand by them and called for measures to protect their livelihoods.
Kavitha said both Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and Congress project themselves as powerful political forces, with the BRS calling itself a lion and the Congress a “Babbar Sher”.
“They should remember that the TRS has arrived as the hunter capable of capturing those tigers,” she said.
To the political leadership in the Old City, Kavitha said leaders should serve the people rather than remain subservient to the Chief Minister.
She urged party cadres to work with discipline and dedication, stressing that those aspiring to become MLAs and MPs must earn public trust by demonstrating that they could deliver justice to the people.
Kavitha said that if the TRS came to power, it would provide free education and healthcare in Hyderabad and ensure access to essential civic amenities.
She also announced that the party proposed to extend loans ranging from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 20 crore to young people to support their aspirations and economic activities.
