In a move aimed at simplifying city life, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has launched a WhatsApp-based ‘Pay and Park’ facility. The digital service allows citizens to book parking slots using WhatsApp—eliminating the need for manual receipts or paper tickets.
Launched during the civic standing committee meeting, the initiative is currently available at 10 prominent locations across the city.
When a citizen books a slot using WhatsApp, the system assigns it to the user’s name for a specific time period. If the vehicle is not parked within that window, the slot is automatically released and made available to others. Instant alerts and notifications keep the user updated, making the process efficient and user-friendly.
This not only reduces manual intervention but also minimizes conflicts over parking availability.
Officials say the WhatsApp-based interface provides real-time access to slot status, current availability, and booking history. The system uses smart alerts to notify users about time limits, slot expirations, or availability in nearby areas.
With no physical paperwork involved, the system aligns with the city’s vision for a digital-first public service model.
According to Bapu Gaikwad, Joint City Engineer for Urban Mobility, the Pay and Park system will not only streamline the parking process but also improve overall traffic management in Pimpri Chinchwad.
By digitising such essential urban services, PCMC aims to reduce congestion and promote sustainable urban planning.
The service was inaugurated by PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh during the civic standing committee meeting held at the Late Mayor Madhukar Pawale Hall in the Main Administrative Building. The session was attended by additional commissioners and heads of key departments.
As Pimpri Chinchwad grows rapidly, such smart urban interventions are vital. PCMC’s WhatsApp Pay and Park model reflects a broader push for digital governance—making essential services accessible, transparent, and efficient. If successful, the model could be expanded to more locations and inspire other cities to follow suit.
