Captain Ben Stocks returned unbeaten on the first day of the third Test against India. Till the announcement of the stumps, the route 99 and the stocks remained unbeaten on 39, but the English captain was hurting a lot during the game just before that. Stokes proceeded and let a ball of Nitish Reddy go, but then grabbed his right waist and started feeling pain. He took care of the physio and then continued batting. However, he batted, but during the rest of the day, he was seen struggling with pain and kept running.

England vice -captain Oli Pope hoped that Stokes would make ‘tremendous return’ on the second day, where the hosts would like to make a strong comeback after a restrained batting after winning the toss. After the first day’s game, Pope said, “Hopefully he will be able to do something magical and will make a strong comeback.” He said, “I have not seen him since then, so hopefully nothing will be serious. But obviously we have to play a big Test match and we also have to play two big matches (in Old Trafford and The Oval), so it is important to try to handle them.”

The Pope said, “Let’s see how he plays, but for me, it is one of my responsibilities, making sure that whatever situation he is struggling at this time, do not take himself to an absurd turn.” The Pope further said, “I am sure Fizio and Medix will prepare a plan with them and then I will help them move in the right direction.”

Stokes’ fear of injury will be a matter of concern for England, as the captain has recently increased his bowling charge after several surgery in the last few years. Stokes was one of his team’s finest bowlers in a win at Leeds, where he took five wickets by throwing 35 overs in both innings.
