Rohit Sharma Created History on Australian Soil: In the second match of the ODI series between Australia and India being played in Adelaide, Australian captain Mitchell Marsh won the toss and decided to bowl first. Team India has entered the field in this match without any changes, whereas the Kangaroo team has made three important changes. Australia has given a chance to Alex Carey, Xavier Bartlett and Adam Zampa by leaving out Josh Philip, Nathan Ellis and Matthew Kuhneman. It is clear from these changes that Australia wants to further strengthen its bowling attack.
After losing the toss, captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill started the innings for India. Both the batsmen adopted a cautious approach in the beginning and did not play any risky shots in the first two overs. Team India opened its account only in the initial overs. However, in the third over, Gill and Rohit increased the pace of runs by hitting fours with excellent timing and gave some relief to the team. During this time, Rohit Sharma made a special record in his name.
Actually, with his first four, Rohit Sharma completed 1000 runs in ODI cricket against Australia on Australian soil. This is a milestone which neither Virat Kohli nor master blaster Sachin Tendulkar could achieve. Rohit has now become the first batsman from India to score more than 1000 ODI runs against the Kangaroos on Australian soil. This achievement is a testament to his consistency and excellent performance on foreign pitches.
The Indian team’s batting was very slow in the first five overs. In the third over, Rohit and Gill together added 10 runs against Mitchell Starc, but in the next over, Josh Hazlewood kept the pressure on by bowling the second consecutive maiden over. India got only two runs in the fifth over. As a result, the Indian score could reach only 14 runs in the first five overs.
Rohit Sharma was playing after scoring 8 runs on 24 balls, whereas he scored only 6 runs on the first 20 balls. This figure shows that the Australian bowlers completely restricted the Indian captain in the beginning. The interesting thing is that such performance has been seen from Rohit after six years. Last time in the 2019 World Cup, against South Africa, he scored only 5 runs in his first 20 balls.
