1. Konark Sun Temple, Odisha — Located in the Puri district of Odisha, the Konark Sun Temple is famous not only in India but throughout the world. Built in the 13th century by King Narasimha Deva, the temple is designed to resemble the chariot of the Sun God, with 12 enormous wheels and seven horses. The temple's walls and pillars are so intricately carved that each sculpture appears lifelike.

 

This temple is a marvel of architecture and has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The temple is designed so that the first rays of the sun reach the sanctum sanctorum directly. Although the sanctum sanctorum has now been destroyed, its grandeur still captivates visitors.

2. Modhera Sun Temple, Gujarat — Located in the Patan district of Gujarat, the Modhera Sun Temple was built in the 11th century by King Bhimdev I. This temple is a fine example of architecture and science. Most notably, twice a year, the first rays of the sun fall directly on the idol of the main deity. The temple complex consists of three main parts: the sanctum sanctorum, the assembly hall, and the Surya Kund. Around this Kund are 108 smaller temples. 3. Martand Sun Temple, Jammu and Kashmir — Located in the Anantnag district amidst the beautiful valleys of Kashmir, the Martand Sun Temple was built by King Lalitaditya in the 8th century. This temple is a magnificent example of ancient Kashmiri architecture. It stands on a high elevation, offering a breathtaking view of the surrounding landscape. Situated at an altitude of approximately 2,116 meters above sea level, reaching it is an adventurous experience. The temple complex also houses 44 smaller temples, including the Sun God. This temple is relatively new and was built in 1988 by Gopaldas Neeraj, a Gwalior-based industrialist. The temple's design is inspired by the Konark Temple in Odisha.
