ICC T20 World Cup 2026: The ICC World Cup 2026 is being hosted by India and Sri Lanka. In this tournament, 20 teams are competing among themselves for the trophy as well as prize money worth crores of rupees. However, the players who became Player of the Match are getting only medals, which has become a topic of discussion. Actually, during bilateral series, the player of the match usually gets a good amount. But this is not standard in ICC global events. However, the medal is quite special.
In big ICC events like T20 World Cup, ODI World Cup, Champions Trophy, there is a total prize pool, which is given to the teams. For example, the winner gets a bigger prize money, the runner-up gets less and different amounts go to the teams that reach the group stage or semi-finals. But according to the rules, ICC does not give any cash prize for individual awards like Player of the Match, Player of the Series. ICC focuses on team-based prize money. Awards like Player of the Match are given for respect. This tradition is old, where awards are given in the form of trophies and medals.
However, the players who are selected as Player of the Match are to get a special medal. This medal is gold-plated, that is, it has a layer of gold on it. There is a cut-out section in the center, from which the T20 World Cup logo is seen protruding outwards. This design symbolizes the energy, drama and fast pace of the 20 over game. It is every player's dream to win this medal in an ICC tournament, which is also the most special moment in the players' career.
Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, India won the T20 World Cup 2024 title, in which the total prize money of $ 11.25 million was distributed. In such a situation, this time also the same prize money can be given by ICC. Out of this, the team that becomes champion will get 2.45 million dollars, which is around Rs 22 crore in Indian rupees.
