Parliament – The first phase of the ongoing Budget Session of Parliament is set to conclude in the Lok Sabha on Friday, with the House scheduled to take up obituary references, Question Hour, committee reports and other government business, according to the official agenda.

Proceedings will begin with an obituary reference in memory of former Member of Parliament Bhagwan Dass Rathor, who passed away in January 2026. Members are expected to observe a moment of remembrance before moving on to the day’s listed business.
Following the tribute, the House will take up Question Hour, during which Union Ministers will provide oral responses to queries raised by Members of Parliament. Ministries including Education, Culture, Health, Home Affairs, Law and Justice, Commerce and Industry, and Textiles are scheduled to table official documents and reports before the House as part of routine legislative procedure.
These documents form part of the accountability framework of Parliament, ensuring that lawmakers are kept informed about policy decisions, implementation status and departmental activities.
The Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture will present a detailed report focusing on the comprehensive development of India’s tourism sector. The report outlines recommendations for structured skill development initiatives, university-level academic programmes and professional training aimed at improving standards for tourist guides, hospitality services and eco-tourism operations.
The committee has emphasised the need for formal education pathways to strengthen service quality and enhance employment opportunities within the tourism industry.
Union Minister Prataprao Jadhav is scheduled to brief the House on the progress made in implementing parliamentary recommendations related to mental health services and the functioning of the Central Government Health Scheme. The update will cover measures taken to improve healthcare delivery and expand access under existing frameworks.
Union Minister Suresh Gopi will also address the House, outlining steps taken by the government on recommendations linked to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. The statement is expected to detail policy actions and administrative measures undertaken in response to earlier committee observations.
Under Private Members’ Business, several resolutions will be introduced for discussion. Among them are proposals aimed at strengthening railway operations in Kerala and conserving historic forts in Maharashtra. Another resolution calls for reducing the backlog of court cases by simplifying procedures related to perjury under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023.
Private Members’ Business provides lawmakers who are not part of the Council of Ministers an opportunity to raise issues of regional and national importance.
On Thursday, the Lok Sabha cleared the Industrial Relations Code (Amendment) Bill, 2026 after an extended debate. The legislation seeks to amend provisions of the Industrial Relations Code, 2020 to prevent potential legal and administrative complications arising from the transition of earlier labour laws into the consolidated framework.
The amendment addresses matters connected to three earlier statutes that were subsumed under the 2020 Code: the Trade Unions Act, 1926; the Industrial Employment (Standing Orders) Act, 1946; and the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947. These laws dealt respectively with trade union registration and functioning, workplace standing orders and mechanisms for resolving industrial disputes.
Lawmakers from various parties took part in the discussion, sharing their views on labour reforms and industrial relations. Members including Kodikunnil Suresh, Darshan Singh Choudhary, Kalyan Banerjee, Arvind Ganpat Sawant, Supriya Sule, Jagdambika Pal, Adv Chandrashekhar and Abdul Rashid Sheikh spoke during the debate.
In addition to the legislation, multiple ministries continued to place official papers before the House during the ongoing session, reflecting the broad range of policy and administrative matters currently under parliamentary consideration.
