Phil Salt is a Welsh professional cricketer who plays international cricket for England and domestic cricket for Lancashire. He previously played for Sussex. He is mainly an attacking right-handed opening batsman. He also keeps wicket sometimes and occasionally bowls right-arm off spin.
Philip Salt was born on 28 August 1996 in Bodelwyddan, Wales. He started playing cricket in St Asaph and played for North East Wales Under-11s. His family moved to Barbados when he was 10 years old. Because of this, he became eligible to play for either England or the West Indies. While in Barbados, he played cricket with Jofra Archer.
Salt returned to the UK when he was 15 and attended Reed’s School on a cricket scholarship. Salt made his England international debut in July 2021. He was part of England’s team that won the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup. He made history by scoring two back-to-back centuries in T20 internationals against the West Indies.
Philip Salt smashed two County Championship centuries in 2018, including a famous 148 off 138 balls against Derbyshire. In the same season, he impressed in the T20 Blast with a strike rate of 172, helping Sussex reach the Blast final.
In 2019, he scored two more Championship hundreds, hit a century in the One-Day Cup, and finished the Blast as Sussex’s leading run-scorer. That year, he also won the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) trophy with the Barbados Tridents and became a regular player in the Big Bash League (BBL) with the Adelaide Strikers.
He earned his first England call-up in 2019 and later smashed a 58-ball century against Ireland in a warm-up match, showing his explosive white-ball ability.

Phil Salt is in a relationship with Abi McLaven. He confirmed their relationship through Instagram posts. They have been together for around five years, and their relationship became public after Salt posted about it on May 15, 2020. Abi McLaven works as a Freelance Virtual Assistant at The Assist Agency, where she has been self-employed since September 2023.
Philip Salt had one of the most unforgettable 48-hour periods of his life during the IPL 2025 final. He became a father for the first time, flying out to be with his partner, Abe Salt, for the birth of their child. RCB then created history by winning their first-ever IPL title, defeating Punjab Kings by 6 runs in the final.
After the win, Salt posted on Instagram with photos that included him holding the IPL trophy with Virat Kohli and a baby shirt that said “Salt Jr.” He captioned it: “48 hours that will live long in the memory
Fans praised him heavily because he reportedly flew back to Ahmedabad at 3 AM after the childbirth just to make it in time for the final. Many called him a “Super Dad” and admired his commitment.
Phil Salt has a one-year central contract with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). His contract value is between £250,000 and £365,000. He is part of the 19 players who currently hold an ECB annual contract, and most players in the list also have one-year contracts.
