According to a report by India Today, the petition submitted to the District Court, Sangeeta alleged that Vijay was involved in an extramarital relationship with a fellow actor. She claimed to have discovered the affair in 2021 and noted that despite Vijay’s assurances to end the relationship, it continued without remorse.

The divorce plea cites adultery and cruelty under Section 27(1)(a) and 27(1)(d) of the Special Marriage Act, 1954, which allows dissolution of marriage on these grounds.

The couple, who married on August 25, 1999, in a ceremony blending Hindu and Christian rituals, share two children — Jason Sanjay and Divya Shasha. The case is currently before the District Court, with proceedings underway.

Sangeeta, daughter of a Tamil industrialist, was once a devoted fan of Vijay before their marriage. The outcome of this high-profile case is awaited with keen interest across Tamil Nadu.
