Following his victory in the T20 World Cup, Indian cricketer Rinku Singh shared a heartfelt letter in memory of his late father. The left-handed batsman lost his father during the tournament, and he took to Instagram to express his feelings, wishing his father could have seen him lift the trophy. Rinku wrote, "I have never gone so many days without speaking to you. I can't imagine how life will continue without you, but I will need you at every step. You taught me that duty comes first, and I was striving to fulfill your dream on the field. Now that I have achieved it, I wish you were here with me. Your absence will be felt in every joy, and I will miss you dearly, Papa."

Father's Passing During the Tournament

Rinku's father, Khanchand Singh, passed away in a Greater Noida hospital and was cremated in Aligarh, where many came to pay their respects. He succumbed to fourth-stage cancer on Friday morning. Overcome with grief, Rinku supported his father's remains during the funeral procession to the crematorium.

Balancing Grief with National Responsibility

After India's initial Super 8 match against South Africa, Rinku hurried home to be with his family as his father's health deteriorated. He later returned to Chennai to rejoin the Indian team for the match against Zimbabwe, which India won. It was shortly after this game that he received the news of his father's passing.

Rinku's Performance in the World Cup

Throughout the World Cup, Rinku had a challenging time with the bat, often coming to the crease with limited balls remaining. He scored a total of 24 runs across five innings, remaining unbeaten twice, with a highest score of 11*. In 10 T20 matches this year, he accumulated 115 runs in eight innings, averaging 28.75, with a strike rate of 132.18 and a top score of 44*.
