Fans of Emmerdale believe they've worked out Kim Tate's departure after a 37-year stint on the ITV soap. Regular viewers will know that Kim (portrayed by Claire King) first graced the Dales in 1989. The formidable businesswoman has been central to numerous unforgettable plotlines over the decades.
From her countless disputes with the locals to even staging her own death, Kim's tenure in Emmerdale has been anything but dull. She's also endured her fair share of heartache, following the sudden death of her husband Will Taylor (Dean Andrews) during Christmas 2024, which was triggered by the reappearance of her step-grandson, Joe Tate (Ned Porteous).
Joe returned to the village as part of his plan to take Kim down, after she attempted to murder him six years prior. The pair have since reconciled and have recently collaborated to seize control of Butler's Farm. The inhabitants of Home Farm had reasons to celebrate this week, after Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) reluctantly relinquished her shares of Butler's Farm to Kim from behind bars, reports the Daily Star.
During Wednesday's (March 11) episode, now available for streaming on ITVX, Kim vented her frustrations to Joe, after he gleefully disclosed the farm news to Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) - who had just informed his family about his prostate cancer diagnosis.
"We all like a bit of trouble, but this deal's everything, and I specifically said not to rub it in," Kim stated, with Joe responding: "I couldn't resist." Discussing the farm's future, Kim added: "It'll take time to turn things around, but I will," before informing Joe that she expected to be involved in all farm-related decisions moving forward.
Shortly afterwards, Cain visited Kim to address his situation. He soon accused Kim of exploiting his wife, stating: "I'd rather burn that place down than let you have it." Kim clarified that Moira had contacted her, and urged Cain not to make Moira feel worse than she already does. The businesswoman then offered an olive branch, proposing that Cain and his children could remain at the farm for as long as necessary.
Cain swiftly interrupted, responding: "We'll be out soon as. You know you've taken the very thing that made [Moira] what she is... I'm gonna survive this and then I'm going to come after you, and rip everything you've got to shreds."
Emmerdale fans appear to believe that Cain's threats could ring true. Some observant viewers have also spotted a modification to the programme's ITVX banner, which now centres around Kim and Joe, alongside Sam (James Hooton) and Lydia Dingle (Karen Blick).
Audiences are now speculating that the image could signal a forthcoming "who killed Kim" storyline, following the recent friction between the Tates and the Dingles. "Kim, Joe, Sam and Lydia take over as the faces of Emmerdale on ITVX," one individual observed on Reddit, with another suggesting: "They're gonna do a who killed Kim storyline, Joe will find out and Lydia inherits everything."
A third viewer speculated: "If it was just Kim and Joe, I'd say a new feud, but could it be a hint of Kim working against Joe or a whodunnit?" with another fan echoing this theory, stating: "It usually means trouble is on the horizon."
Meanwhile, another fan believes that the image could signal Joe's impending downfall. They penned: "I hope they just do a who shot Joe storyline (like Robert's at the end of 2015). I would hate to see Joe killed off - he is a superb actor, villain, and character. He definitely needs to be the village punching bag for a while though."
Emmerdale airs weekday nights at 8pm on ITV1 and STV, and Coronation Street airs weekday nights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and STV as part of ITV's new soap power hour scheduling pattern for Coronation Street and Emmerdale
