Delhi: A very bad news has come out for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) team, which has won the trophy thrice in IPL. Actually, fast bowler Harshit Rana is out of IPL 2026. He is still not completely fit after undergoing knee surgery.

Rana suffered this injury during the practice match played against South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2026. Considering the seriousness of the injury, doctors advised him to undergo surgery. Rana had undergone surgery on his right knee a few days ago.

His rehab is going on under the supervision of BCCI doctors. But nothing can be said about when Rana will return to the field. The management of KKR has started searching for Rana’s replacement.

The team’s head coach Abhishek Nair looked quite saddened by fast bowler Rana’s exit from the tournament. He said in the press conference,

‘This is a big blow for us because Harshit has been an important part of the team for the last few seasons. He has emerged as an excellent cricketer and it will not be easy to replace him with another player.

He further told that the team is looking for his replacement. Under this, some players have also been trialled in the practice session of KKR going on at Eden Gardens. During this period, bowlers like Navdeep Saini, Akash Madhwal, Simarjit Singh, Sandeep Warrier and KM Asif have tried their luck. The management does not want to show any haste in choosing Rana’s replacement. Their replacement will be announced only after thoroughly assessing all the bowlers.

When will Mathisha Pathirana play his first match in IPL 2026?

At the same time, in the press conference, Nair also gave important information about Mathisha Pathirana. KKR head coach said that Pathirana is currently completing his rehab. He can join the team by mid-April. This clearly means that Pathirana will not be able to play the first few matches for KKR.
