New York City would ‘love’ to sign Mohamed Salah once he leaves Liverpool, club chief Brad Sims has confirmed. The Egyptian forward is set to leave Anfield at the end of the season, with the remainder of his contract due to be cancelled.
Salah, 33, confirmed his exit in an emotional video to supporters. As it stands, his next stage has not been announced, albeit Saudi Arabia remains an option.
New York City CEO Sims has now spoken out on reports linking his side with the winger and has revealed that he would be an ideal signing.
Speaking at the Sports Business Journal Business of Soccer conference, he said: "I would love to have Mo Salah. We have not had any discussions with him or his people. What is most important is does the player want to come to MLS and be in New York City.
“We are not going to go out and sell someone on New York, the league or our club. We want players who really want to be here.

"And the other thing about star players is you need to make good choices... You need the guys who are going to be the hardest trainers, good team mates and good for the locker room and the culture. We do a lot of due diligence, and not just on star players."
While New York City would potentially be keen to sign Salah, his agent Ramy Abass has confirmed that a move elsewhere is not close to being agreed.
He said: “We do not know where Mohamed will play next season. This also means that no one else knows.”
Salah now has just a minimum of ten games remaining as a Liverpool player before he departs the club. Announcing his departure, he said: “Hello everyone. Unfortunately, the day has come. This is the first part of my farewell: I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.
"I wanted to start by saying that I never imagined how deeply this club, this city, these people, would become part of my life. Liverpool, it's not a just a football club. It's a passion. It's a history. It's a spirit. I can't explain in words to anyone not part of this club.
"We celebrated victory. We won the most important trophies. And we fought together through the hardest time in our life.
"I want to thank everyone who was part of this club throughout my time here, especially the team-mates, past and present. And to the fans: I don't have enough words. The support you showed me through the best time of my career and you stood by me in the toughest times. It's something I will never forget, and something I will take with me always.
"Leaving is never easy. You gave me the best time of my life. I always be one of you. This club will always be my home, to me and to my family. Thank you for everything. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone."
