On the last day of Naxal-free India campaign, an important and positive news has come out from Chhattisgarh, which is considered a big success of the ongoing campaign against Naxalism. Due to increasing pressure from the security forces, the Naxalites handed over their so-called “bank” to the authorities for the first time. In this action, not only a huge quantity of weapons were recovered, but cash worth crores of rupees and gold by the kilo were also found. Also, more than 25 militants, including female Naxalites carrying a reward of Rs 16 lakh, have surrendered and decided to return to the mainstream.

Big change on the last day of the campaign

A big change was seen on the last day of the operation in Sukma district, where more than 25 Naxalites surrendered with about 100 weapons. These also include two female Naxalites, on whom a reward of Rs 8 lakh each was declared. After being active in the forests for a long time, these people have now given up violence and expressed confidence in the Constitution and the democratic system.

Based on the information about surrendered Naxalites, security forces conducted a special search operation in Bijapur district. During this period, property worth about Rs 14.06 crore was recovered, which included about 7.2 kg of gold, whose value was estimated at more than Rs 11 crore. Apart from this, about Rs 2.9 crore in cash was also seized. This recovery is considered a big blow to the Naxalite network.

Investigation revealed that the Naxalites had hidden this cash and weapons in the forests. Due to constant pressure from the security forces, they started retreating and hid the resources at different places to keep them safe. This major success was achieved only on the alertness of the surrendered militants.

What were the weapons recovered?

The recovered weapons include INSAS LMG, two AK-47 rifles, three .303 rifles and a large number of cartridges. According to officials, this action is an important step towards weakening the power of Naxalites. Meanwhile, two rewarded Naxalites of KKBN division belonging to Odisha also surrendered before Sukma police. Both of them were involved in Naxalite activities for a long time and were playing an active role in the organization.

The rehabilitation policy of Chhattisgarh government and “Poona Margame” campaign are also considered to have a big contribution in this change. Under this, those who surrender are being given security, financial help and employment opportunities. Sukma SP claimed that it is clear from these incidents that the Naxalite organization has now become weak and the situation is changing rapidly due to the development works in the area.
