Meghan Markle was "unwelcome" to the late Queen Elizabeth II's bedside for one major reason, a new book has claimed. The 44-year-old had travelled to the UK with Prince Harry in September 2022 for work commitments but had later extended the trip due to the death of the late monarch.
Although she later attended the late Queen's funeral on September 19, 2022, Meghan was reportedly not welcome to join the royals at her bedside on the day of her death. King Charles reportedly rang his youngest son to explain that his wife would not be welcome at Balmoral, where the late Queen spent her final days, after learning that Harry was keen to have Meghan come along to support him.
In his new book, Betrayal, author Tom Bowers wrote: "When Charles heard that Meghan intended to come, he called Harry. That was unacceptable, said Charles."
Mr Bowers then added that Meghan was "unwelcome" due to the number of times she had "refused" to join the royals at Balmoral.
The author wrote: "Since Meghan had refused the Queen's invitations to Balmoral in the Queen's lifetime, she was unwelcome at her death.
"Sharing his grief with Meghan, who maligned the monarchy, was unthinkable, said Charles. He believed that, to her dying day, his mother was shocked by Harry's disloyalty."
Mr Bowers claimed that Harry was "outraged" by the reaction.
It was also reported that Charles had told his son that Princess Catherine was also not in attendance, so it wasn't just Meghan being left out.
The book adds: "Charles ended their argument by revealing that Kate would not be coming, so Meghan had not been picked on.
"Still fuming, Harry discovered that William, who was unwilling to wait any longer, had ordered the plane to take off."
