A 14-year-old boy has been attacked by two dogs in a sleepy UK village. The teenage boy sustained serious injuries during the "horrendous and distressing" dog attack in Potterne, Wiltshire.

Police were called at around 9.30pm on April 9 following reports a teen had been attacked by two dogs which had escaped from their property in Ryeleaze, Potterne. Officers from various units raced to the scene, and the two dogs were seized after being brought under control by armed police. They have since been taken to secure kennels.

The victim was taken to hospital to be treated for serious injuries, which are not thought to be life-changing, Wiltshire Police said.

The dogs' owner has been identified and will be questioned in relation to the incident, the force added. Wiltshire Police are still working to determine the breed of the dogs.

There will be an increased police presence in the village for reassurance, the force added.

Devizes Neighbourhood Inspector Simon Garrett said: "We appreciate how horrendous and distressing this incident must have been for the victim, his family and those who witnessed it and we are taking it very seriously.

"The two dogs involved have been seized and taken to secure kennels and their owner has been identified. Enquiries are ongoing to understand the full circumstances of the incident.

"We understand the significant concern it will have caused and additional officers will be in the area for reassurance.
