Sergio Garcia has been far from pleased at the Masters this week - and his frustration reached boiling point during Sunday's final round when he smashed his driver against a water cooler. Following a wayward tee shot at the second hole, the 2017 champion turned away in fury and wrapped the club around the leg of a cool box containing water bottles for players and caddies.

The shaft snapped in two, leaving him to complete the remainder of his round without a driver. The 46-year-old Spaniard made a bogey at the first to slip to six over par for the week, and his temper deteriorated further at the par-five second at Augusta National, as he fired his drive into the fairway bunker. He responded by slamming his driver against the ground twice before storming off the tee box and swinging his club into the leg of the cooler.

The LIV Golf star's conduct is certain to have attracted the attention of Augusta National officials, who had already reprimanded Bob MacIntyre earlier in the week following a fierce outburst of his own.

Garcia began his week with muted expectations. "Not super happy at the moment, but we're working, and we'll see," he said. "We'll see what happens throughout the week. Yeah, at the moment I'm not feeling amazing."

He surprised himself by carding an even-par opening round, yet failed to capitalise on Friday with a three-over-par 75, effectively playing himself out of contention as Rory McIlroy surged to 12 under.

It was still sufficient to make the cut, but he slipped further down the leaderboard with a 74 on Saturday. He managed to salvage a par on the second hole following his outburst, but dropped another bogey at the third to fall into a tie for 50th place.

Viewers were far from impressed with his behaviour on Sunday. One wrote: "Sergio Garcia should have been disqualified and removed from Augusta National after his temper tantrum on number two this morning."

A second commented: "Sergio Garcia needs to be penalised for that. The whole field still needs to go, and the tee box has a huge chunk out of it."

A third remarked: "Grounds crew replacing the grass on second tee where Sergio Garcia took another hissy fit. We haven't heard the last of this eh?"

And a fourth added: "Having the grounds crew come to the tee box to repair divots because you had a temper tantrum is so lame."
