Belagavi: A family belonging to the Kuruba community has allegedly been socially boycotted in Kondasakopp village of Belagavi district. Those who speak to the family have been warned of a fine of Rs 5,000, while a reward of Rs 1,000 has reportedly been announced for informing about such interactions.

According to sources, some members of a local community committee took this decision over issues related to temple rituals and a personal matter. An audio clip discussing the boycott has surfaced on social media.

The affected family was earlier associated with temple duties as priests of the local Beeradevara temple. It is alleged that differences arose between the family and the village committee over temple-related practices. The family had reportedly opposed certain religious predictions, which led to disagreements.

Following this, the committee is accused of imposing a social boycott on the family. The family has also alleged that stones are being thrown at their house during the night. They claim that villagers are not speaking to them and are not inviting them to social events, including marriages.

The family further stated that even a five-year-old child has been isolated by villagers. A complaint has been filed with the police, and further action is awaited.
