Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar said that a new parking policy will be introduced for Bengaluru to address the city’s traffic congestion.
Speaking after inaugurating a multi-level parking facility at KR Market, he said the policy is being designed to encourage greater participation from the private sector. Along with government-built parking systems, private players will also be allowed to develop parking infrastructure, and incentives will be provided to those who come forward. The policy will be announced soon, he added. He also said that new technology will be introduced to improve parking systems in the city, and vehicles parked indiscriminately will be towed away.
Metro pillars to be illuminated: The state government has also planned initiatives to enhance the visual appeal of the Greater Bengaluru area. As part of this, metro pillars will be decorated with dynamic lighting systems during nighttime.
On Friday, at the MG Road Metro Station, D.K. Shivakumar, who is also the Bengaluru in-charge minister, launched the project to install dynamic lighting on metro pillars. As the lights were switched on, the pillars glowed in saffron, white, and green colours, enhancing the appearance of the metro corridor.
Later, speaking to reporters, he said the government is taking steps to improve the city’s aesthetics. Dynamic lighting has already been installed on pillars at the MG Road metro station, and similar systems will be extended to all metro pillars in the coming days.
On the occasion, Anekal MLA Shivanna, MLC Sudhamadas, Ambedkar Development Corporation Chairman and former mayor Sampath Raj, GBA Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao and others were present.
