Meghan Markle's estranged father has moved back to the US to help his recovery after a leg amputation last year, it has been revealed. Thomas Markle, who not long ago moved to the Philippines, is back in America, where he is expected to be fitted with a state-of-the art prosthetic leg.

Thomas, 81, reportedly made the decision himself recently after nearly dying last December when a blood clot in his left thigh cut off the blood supply to his foot. This resulted in his leg being amputated, with Meghan's estranged father having had to receive a lot of care since.

While Meghan, 44, is estranged from Thomas, and has been since 2018, it is believed she sent a letter to him in hospital.

The letter was delivered by US embassy officials, and is not believed to have brought the father-and-daughter any closer together.

As reported by The Mirror, Thomas'older daughter Samantha spoke about her father's move back to America.

She said: "Dad made the decision to come back to the US for ongoing medical care.

"He will be able to get the best prosthetics here and be surrounded by friends and family to support him."

She continued: "Even though he has been through such traumatic times, this has been a positive spiritual experience for dad."

It is not known where in America Thomas has moved back to. He originally left the country for a fresh start last year.

The former Hollywood lighting director told the Daily Mail: "I am ready for a change. I have felt stuck in a rut for some time and I am ready to meet new people and experience kindness.

"At 80, none of us know how long we have left. I want whatever time I have to be peaceful with none of the awful drama of recent years."
