An alarming incident was narrowly avoided shortly after Indigo flight 6E108 arrived from Hyderabad to Chandigarh. A passenger's power bank ignited, filling the cabin with smoke and causing panic among travelers. In response to the emergency, all passengers and crew members were swiftly evacuated using emergency slides. According to an official statement from Indigo, the incident occurred while the aircraft was stationary at Chandigarh Airport.

The airline's statement detailed that on May 5, 2026, while the flight was parked at the airport, a fire broke out in a personal electronic device belonging to a passenger. The statement emphasized that immediate evacuation was executed for safety, and all relevant authorities were promptly notified. Fortunately, all passengers were safely escorted to the terminal, where a team was available to assist them.

Sources indicated that smoke was observed coming from the overhead storage area immediately after landing, prompting the evacuation. The smoke was attributed to the power bank fire, and thankfully, no injuries were reported. A passenger recounted to the media that the fire incident occurred as soon as the aircraft touched down.

During the evacuation, the passenger's wife sustained an ankle injury. He noted that they were being evacuated via the emergency slide. He described how smoke began to emanate from the power bank of a person seated at the back of the plane, prompting the flight attendant to use a fire extinguisher. However, the cabin quickly filled with smoke, leading to chaos.

Despite the flight attendant's efforts to calm the passengers, panic ensued. Emergency doors were opened for evacuation, and slides were deployed for disembarkation. The passenger mentioned that children and elderly individuals were also on board. His wife was taken to a hospital in Zirakpur, where doctors indicated she had multiple fractures and may require surgery.
