On Thursday, a notable expansion of the Bihar cabinet took place, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Rajnath Singh, and BJP National President Nitin Nabin, among other prominent leaders. This expansion is particularly significant as Nishant Kumar, the son of former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has joined the government led by Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary. The first group of ministers to take their oaths included Shravan Kumar, Vijay Kumar Sinha, Dilip Kumar Jaiswal, Nishant Kumar, and Leshi Singh.
In a subsequent round, Ram Kripal Yadav, Nitish Mishra, Damodar Rawat, Sanjay Singh 'Tiger', and Ashok Chaudhary also took their oaths in the presence of Prime Minister Modi, Amit Shah, and other leaders in Patna. Following them, Bhagwan Singh Kushwaha, Arun Shankar Prasad, Madan Sahni, Dr. Santosh Kumar Suman, and Rama Nishad were sworn in as ministers of Bihar.
Ratnesh Sada, Kumar Shailendra, Sheela Kumari, Kedar Prasad Gupta, and Lakheindra Kumar Roshan also took their oaths as ministers. Sunil Kumar, Shreyasi Singh, Mohammad Jama Khan, Nand Kishore Ram, Shailesh Kumar alias Bulo Mandal, and Pramod Kumar were among those who were sworn in as Bihar ministers. The BJP has taken the lead in this crucial Hindi-speaking state following the resignation of Nitish Kumar from the Chief Minister's position last month.
Nitish Kumar, who has served as Chief Minister for the longest period in Bihar, stepped down to take a seat in the Rajya Sabha. Currently, there are only two ministers in the government—senior JDU leaders Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav, who have been appointed as Deputy Chief Ministers. This shift is viewed as a change in the balance of power. Previously, Samrat Chaudhary and senior BJP leader Vijay Kumar Sinha served as Deputy Chief Ministers in Nitish Kumar's government. According to the Constitution, the number of ministers in the cabinet cannot exceed 15 percent of the total members of the state assembly. With 243 members in the Bihar assembly, the maximum number of ministers allowed in the state cabinet is 36.
