5 Fun Facts You Didn’t Know About KL Rahul

The ‘Happy Accident’ Behind His Name

Everyone assumes Rahul was named after Rahul Dravid. But that’s not true. His father was a huge Sunil Gavaskar fan and wanted to name his son Rohan – after Gavaskar’s son. In a moment of confusion, he ended up naming him Rahul instead. A simple mix-up, but it gave Indian cricket one of its finest batters.

Still Holds the Fastest IPL Fifty Record

Back in 2018, a young Rahul opened for Kings XI Punjab and went absolutely berserk against Delhi Daredevils. He reached his half-century in just 14 balls – six fours and four sixes in that blitz. That record for the fastest fifty in IPL history still stands today. Fourteen balls. Unreal.

The Deep Meaning Behind His Tattoos

Rahul is a “tattoo addict” with over seven designs. They tell his life story. His left wrist has a lighthouse for Mangalore (his hometown by the sea). Another wrist bears his dog Deshi’s name. He also has his parents’ names and the Latin phrase “Veni, vidi, vici” (I came, I saw, I conquered). Art with meaning.

A Die-Hard Arsenal Fan

When not hitting sixes, Rahul is a devoted football fanatic. He supports Arsenal FC in the English Premier League. His loyalty runs so deep that during India’s 2018 tour of England, he made a special trip with teammate Umesh Yadav to watch Arsenal beat West Ham United live at the Emirates Stadium. A true Gooner.

Karnataka’s First Triple-Centurion

In January 2015, Rahul became the first Karnataka batsman ever to score a triple-century in first-class cricket. Batting nearly 11 hours against Uttar Pradesh in a Ranji Trophy match, he piled up 337 runs with 47 fours and four sixes. That innings announced his arrival as a future star of Indian cricket. Pure hunger for big runs.
