Patna, Bihar Bureau

SP has taken major action in a case that embarrassed the police department in Saharsa district of Bihar. Woman sub-inspector Shilpi Kumari has been suspended for picking up BPSC candidate Pravesh Kumar from his home at midnight, beating him and leaving him after taking bribe. Saharsa SP Himanshu took the matter seriously and took action with immediate effect.
It is being told that after the news of alleged brutality of Balwahat police station came to light recently, the police department was in a bad light. The SP considered it a serious case of indiscipline and corruption and took action, after which there was a stir in the department. According to the information, on the night of May 16, SI Shilpi Kumari posted at Balwahat police station had picked up Pravesh Kumar, resident of Bhatpura village of Bakhtiyarpur police station area, from his house. Pravesh Kumar is said to be a BPSC candidate. The family alleges that the student was picked up from home without any warrant or clear allegations and taken to the police station, where he was brutally beaten like a criminal.

After getting injured in the fight, Pravesh Kumar’s condition deteriorated, after which he had to be admitted to Sadar Hospital for treatment. The family members have alleged that Rs 50,000 was demanded for the student’s release and later he was released after taking a bribe of Rs 10,000. The most shocking aspect of this case was that even Balwahat police station incharge Raju Kumar was not aware of this action. It is being told that there was no case registered against the student in the diary of the police station, due to which serious questions have been raised on the working style and arbitrariness of the female inspector.

The investigation of the case has been handed over to Simri Bakhtiyarpur SDPO Mukesh Kumar Thakur. SDPO said that after the matter came to light in the media, a preliminary report was sent to the SP, on the basis of which suspension action was taken. Now after detailed investigation, further legal action will be taken. SP Himanshu Sharma has said that any officer who tarnishes the image of the police will not be spared. If found guilty in the departmental investigation, more strict action will be taken against the female inspector Shilpi Kumari.
