Ryan ten Doeschate, India's assistant coach, announced that formal updates regarding the injuries of veteran players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be provided soon, as the team prepares for the ODI series against Afghanistan.

In a disappointing turn of events for fans, Kohli has been officially ruled out of the ODI series due to a hamstring injury. Additionally, Rohit Sharma's participation is uncertain, with sources from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) indicating he may also miss the three-match series.

Awaiting Official Updates

During a pre-match press conference for the upcoming one-off Test against Afghanistan, scheduled for Saturday, Doeschate mentioned that updates will be released once the medical team evaluates the fitness of both players. He stated, "Official communication will come on that. It's obviously significant news when it involves players like Virat or Rohit, but we will follow the same protocols. We have a few days to assess their fitness and make necessary adjustments to the squad."

Kohli's Recent Performance

Kohli was seen struggling with his running during the IPL final against the Gujarat Titans on May 30, yet he managed to lead Royal Challengers Bengaluru to victory with a remarkable 75 runs off 42 balls in a challenging 156-run chase. He concluded the IPL season as the fourth-highest run-scorer, amassing 675 runs in 16 matches.

Managing Player Workload

Discussing the impact of injuries to centrally contracted players during the IPL on Team India's strategy, Doeschate emphasized the need for a tailored approach to injury management. He noted the importance of balancing IPL demands with the necessity for players to be in optimal condition for international matches, stating that despite the heavy workloads, the team has navigated the situation effectively.

"It's a very individualistic matter. From the Indian perspective, we want our players to perform at their best during international duty, which requires careful management. The IPL is a prestigious domestic tournament, so finding a balance is crucial. I believe we have handled the workload of contracted players reasonably well this past IPL," he remarked.

Planning for Key Fixtures

He also highlighted the significance of planning around major international matches to ensure that India's top players remain injury-free and in peak physical condition when needed. "Injuries are unavoidable. We can't shield players by keeping them off the field, but we must identify critical parts of the international schedule to ensure our best players are fit and ready when it matters most," he concluded.
