This film has been directed by Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi. This film was based on the popular novel ‘Kashi Ka Assi’ by famous Hindi writer Kashinath Singh. The story of the film revolves around Assi Ghat of Varanasi and the socio-cultural changes there.

Sunny Deol and Sakshi Tanwar starrer film Mohalla Assi was surrounded by many serious controversies before its release, due to which the release of the film was delayed for almost 3 years and finally the film could hit the theaters in 2018. In the trailer of the film, foul language and abuses were used by the characters, due to which there was a huge controversy across the country. Apart from this, the film was accused of hurting religious sentiments.

The film could not earn even Rs 2 crore at the box office.

Sunny Deol played the role of Dharamnath Pandey in this film. While Sakshi Tanwar was seen in the role of his wife. According to Bollywood Hungama, this film was able to earn only Rs 1.64 crore in India. Whereas its total budget was Rs 20 crore. Due to huge controversies and late release, this film could not earn much at the box office and proved to be a flop.
