IND vs AFG: The three-match ODI series between India and Afghanistan is scheduled to begin on Saturday at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamshala, but the weather has emerged as the biggest challenge before the match. Due to continuous rain, the toss could not be held at the scheduled time, due to which the start of the match was delayed. Along with the meteorological department, the eyes of cricket lovers are also focused on whether the match will be of full 50 overs or the overs will have to be cut.
The weather in Dharamshala has been bad since morning and it is raining intermittently. Due to continuous rain, the toss could not be held on time and the match could not start even till 4 pm. The groundsmen are making continuous efforts to make the outfield playable, but the weather conditions remain a matter of concern for the match officials.
According to cricket rules, if the match starts by 6:30 pm, then a 20-20 over match can be played between the two teams. However, if rain continues even after this and the game cannot start, the overs may be further reduced. In such a situation, there is a possibility of applying the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) rule to determine the result of the match.
At present the players are waiting in the dressing room and the fans are hoping for the weather to clear up. Now all eyes are on the weather and the next decision of the match referee, which will decide how many overs the match will be played or whether rain will spoil the fun of the game.
In this match, all eyes will be on the senior batsman of the Indian team, Rohit Sharma. The fitness of Rohit, who was out of some matches due to injury during the IPL, will also be tested. However, as soon as he enters the field, Rohit will add a new chapter in the history of Indian cricket.
At the age of 39 years and 44 days, Rohit Sharma will become one of the oldest players to play ODI cricket for India. In such a situation, this match is considered very special for him personally.
The Indian team will take the field in this series without some big names. Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya are not part of the team due to fitness reasons. In such a situation, the selectors have expressed confidence in the young players.
Yashasvi Jaiswal may get a big responsibility in the batting order, while the performance of all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy will also be under special attention of cricket experts. This series will also be an important opportunity for captain Shubman Gill to prove his leadership abilities.
Players like Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Washington Sundar are expected to strengthen the middle order, while in bowling, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh and Prasidh Krishna will be the main strength of the team.
Although Afghanistan has struggled in the Test format, this team has continuously proved its ability in limited overs cricket. Especially in ODI and T-20 cricket, Afghanistan has challenged many big teams.
The biggest relief for the team is the return of star spinner Rashid Khan. Rashid’s presence gives a new edge to the bowling attack. Apart from them, players like Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, Mohammad Nabi and Azmatullah Omarzai have the ability to change the course of the match.
Under the leadership of captain Hashmatullah Shahidi, the Afghanistan team will enter the field with the intention of presenting a strong challenge against India.
The pitch at Dharamshala is generally considered to be helpful for both batsmen and fast bowlers, but the conditions may change due to rain. Fast bowlers may get additional swing and seam movement in cloudy weather.
If the match changes to shorter format then the strategy of both the teams will also change completely. In such a situation, the role of toss may become even more important.
