Tom Banton made one of those best fielding moments of the match, as England got rid of Shreyas Iyer in the second T20I against India, at Old Trafford, Manchester. The England fielder charged in from long-on and finished it with a cracking running catch, really to end Iyer’s attacking spell.

Iyer seemed right in the rhythm, he was looking sharp and had already played a bunch of confident shots. He was trying to keep pushing at the spinners, and stepped out again, this time against Liam Dawson. You could see the batter’s movement, and Dawson bowled it away wide, outside the hitting lane.

However, Iyer opted for an expansive shot and went for the aerial route. However, he could not quite connect with the ball, which soared in the air, and Banton pounced on it quickly – he ran in from long-on, watched the ball all the way and timed it to perfection. The catch was taken with ease, and this is how England scored a major breakthrough.

This dismissal pretty much ended a solid inning by the Indian skipper. Shreyas managed to score 37 runs from 22 deliveries, including three boundaries and a six at a strike rate of 168.18. This batting helped India maintain their scoring rate in the middle overs.

The strategy of the English side worked. Dawson continued pitching the ball in the zone where Iyer does not prefer, and this time around, the risky shot played by Iyer did not work. Banton made it look like child's play, but it was perfect timing and balance all the way.

India’s innings stays on track

India chose to bat first and were 132 for 3 after 13.2 overs when Shreyas Iyer got dismissed. Earlier, Abhishek Sharma set the tone, smashing 43 off 24 balls, with eight fours and one six, before he was caught by Tom Banton off Sam Curran, simple as that.

Then young debutant Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made 14 off 10 balls with two sixes, before he was stumped by Jos Buttler off Will Jacks. Ishan Kishan remained not out on 30 from 23 balls, with three boundaries, while Shivam Dube had just come in and was sitting on 1.

India also collected seven extras, including six wides and one leg bye, so the total stayed at 132 for 3, and the rate hovered close to ten runs per over.

For England, Sam Curran and Liam Dawson took one wicket each, and Will Jacks removed Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. Jofra Archer bowled tight, conceding 17 runs in 2.2 overs, while Josh Tongue and Adil Rashid were still waiting for a wicket.

Even with Shreyas Iyer going, India remained in good shape, because the top order kept contributing quickly and the overall approach stayed aggressive throughout.
