Chandigarh: The Punjab government has so far deposited an amount of ₹1,147 crore directly into the bank accounts of about 33 lakh women of the state through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) under the ‘Mukhya Mantri Maawan Dhian Satkar Yojana’. Eligible women from the Scheduled Caste (SC) category were provided a total amount of ₹4,500 in the form of three monthly installments of ₹1,500 per month, while eligible women from all other categories were given a total amount of ₹3,000 in the form of three monthly installments of ₹1,000 per month.
This amount has been released to those eligible beneficiaries whose registration was done by June 25, 2026. Under the ‘Chief Minister Maawan Dhiyan Satkar Yojana’, the registration process is going on continuously throughout Punjab and till now more than 66 lakh women have got themselves registered. The women who are registering now will get the amount in the next instalment.
Punjab Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljeet Kaur said that the successful disbursement of the first installment proves that the Punjab government is firm on its resolve to provide financial assistance to every eligible woman directly and with complete transparency. He said, ‘Chief Minister Maawan Dhiyaan Satkar Yojana’ has been started with the aim of providing economic security and respect to women. We are committed to ensuring that every eligible beneficiary receives assistance in a transparent and timely manner. No eligible woman will be deprived of this scheme.”
Dr. Baljeet Kaur said that this scheme is providing direct financial assistance to women and it will not have any impact on their existing social security schemes. Women who are already receiving widow pension, disabled pension or old age pension will continue to get all those benefits as before. ‘Mukhyamantri Maawan Dhiyaan Satkar Yojana’ will act as an additional layer of social security for them.
Women across Punjab who received the first installment described it as a proud moment of their lives. Many women said that this is the first time that money has been deposited directly into their bank accounts.
Kuldeep Kaur, a resident of Mustaba Jatta village in Gurdaspur district, said receiving the first installment was one of the most emotional moments of her life. After receiving ₹4,500 in her account, she experienced financial freedom for the first time. She said, “I am very happy that my own earnings have come into my own bank account. At first, I never even saw the earnings. When the message of three installments arrived on my mobile, my happiness knew no bounds. I thank the Punjab government and our Chief Minister from the bottom of my heart for giving us this feeling of self-respect.”
Kuldeep Kaur said that this amount is much more than financial support. She said, “Earlier people used to give more importance to sons than daughters, but now this thinking is gradually changing. Families who have daughters now feel more secure because women have their own financial support. Main taan aapne husband layi manayog ho gayi.”
Harmeet Kaur, another beneficiary from Ghummankalan village, said that she got to know about this scheme during the awareness camp organized in the village. She said, “I will buy a suit for myself with this money and will spend some amount on household expenses. I am very happy. Main vi hun kama rahi haan (I am also earning now).”
Harmeet Kaur said that this scheme also gives an important message to the society. She said, “A daughter is not a burden but the pride of the family. This amount will help in the education of daughters and their empowerment. When we educate and empower a daughter, the future of the entire family and society becomes bright. I have become wise.”
Kiran, a widow resident of Dhuri in Sangrur district, said that this financial assistance will prove to be a huge help in the difficult phase of her life. She said, “This is a huge amount for me. I am a widow, yes, and very poor. There is no one in charge of my house. I am the Chief Minister, I am very wealthy.” I thank the Chief Minister.)
Similarly, Rita, a daily wage laborer from a village in Gurdaspur district, said that this financial assistance has reduced many of the worries of her family. She said, “I got information about this scheme from the Anganwadi center and with its help I filled the application. Both my husband and I are daily wage labourers. This amount is a great help to us. Now I will be able to use this money for my needs.”
He had tears of joy in his eyes when he saw the payment confirmation SMS on his mobile. Smiling, he said, “The ‘toon-toon’ of my mobile changed our life.” (The notification tone of my mobile changed our life.)
