New Delhi: Southwest Monsoon will be active across the country on Sunday, July 12. Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings regarding heavy rain, lightning and strong wind in many states. There is a danger of landslides in the mountains and waterlogging in cities. There will be rain and thundershowers in many areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.


North India: Fear of heavy rain   


According to IMD, heavy to very heavy rain may occur in parts of Uttarakhand, Himachal, UP and East Rajasthan. It will be cloudy in Delhi-NCR also. There is a possibility of lightning and strong winds along with rain here. There is a possibility of landslides in hilly areas and water logging in low-lying areas. People have been advised to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel.


Heavy rain in central and eastern India also   


There will be light to moderate rain at many places in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal and Sikkim. Heavy rain may also be recorded in some districts.


There is a possibility of very heavy rain at isolated places in Bihar, Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. There can be thunder, lightning and wind blowing at a speed of 30-40 km per hour. Continuous rain will increase the water level of rivers and traffic in cities may be affected.


How will the weather be in Delhi?   


The minimum temperature in Delhi on Saturday was 26.6 degrees Celsius, which is 0.7 degrees below normal. According to Safdarjung Observatory, it remained cloudy throughout the day and drizzle occurred at some places.


IMD did not issue any alert for Saturday. The sky may remain cloudy for the next few days. However, the Meteorological Department says that there is little possibility of heavy rain next week.


Monsoon prevails in South and Northeast   


Rain will continue in Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura may also receive widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls. Fishermen and those living in hilly areas have been asked to take special precautions.


Condition of Rajasthan and Himachal    


Light to moderate rain occurred in Rajasthan in the last 24 hours. Maximum rainfall of 55 mm was recorded in Churu. The maximum temperature in Ganganagar was 42 degrees and the minimum in Sirohi was 21 degrees. Monsoon will remain weak in the state for the next one week and the weather will be mostly dry.


Due to continuous rain in Himachal, there is yellow alert in Shimla, Kullu, Chamba, Bilaspur and Sirmaur. Incidents of wall collapse in Shimla and flood in Kinnaur have come to light. The administration has appealed to stay away from rivers and streams.
