Nature is about to wreak havoc on large parts of the country. A deep ‘low pressure’ area formed in the Bay of Bengal has completely spoiled the weather pattern. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a high alert for 15 states of the country. Not only will one have to face torrential rains in the next few hours, but winds blowing at a speed of 60 to 70 kilometers per hour can wreak havoc.
According to meteorologists, the impact of this cyclonic storm and heavy rains will be felt from North India to South and Central India. The most affected states include Uttar Pradesh, Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
The condition of hill states is even more worrying. Due to continuous heavy rains in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, the risk of landslides has increased and rivers may overflow. Along with this, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha and Telangana will also be hit by strong storm and rain. The Meteorological Department has issued a special warning for the northeastern states of Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Along with heavy rain, lightning and severe cyclonic winds are expected here.
Seeing this fierce form of nature, the administration has geared up. Disaster management teams, including NDRF and SDRF, have been put on alert mode to deal with any emergency. The government has warned fishermen not to go near the sea at all. Tourists visiting the hilly areas have been appealed to postpone their travel for the time being and stay at safe places only. Residents living in low-lying areas have been advised to remain alert regarding situations like waterlogging and floods. If it is not absolutely necessary, do not leave the house.
