Petition filed in Delhi High Court demanding shifting to private hospital
New Delhi. Gitanjali J., wife of social activist Sonam Wangchuk. Angmo said he has approached the Delhi High Court requesting permission to shift Wangchuk from Safdarjung Hospital to a private hospital. She said she would request an urgent hearing on her petition on Sunday.
Angmo said that she has lost faith in Safdarjung Hospital and she wants to remove Wangchuk from there and get him admitted to a private hospital of her choice before his health deteriorates further.
Angmo, in a post on social media platform ‘X’, said no family should be forced to struggle with the administration to decide which hospital to get their loved one treated. He also alleged that the actual data of Wangchuk’s potassium level was conveniently omitted from the health bulletin issued by Safdarjung Hospital.
Despite repeated requests, the hospital is not allowing him to be discharged or shifting him to a private hospital of our choice, he said. There are about 30 policemen deployed on the floor we are on and more than 100 policemen are present in the entire hospital. There are strict restrictions on our movement. This is not medical care, but illegal detention.
He said, therefore, I have moved the High Court and requested for an urgent hearing today, so that Sonam can be allowed to be transferred before her health deteriorates further. No family should be forced to struggle with administration to decide which hospital to treat their loved one.
Wangchuk was forcibly taken to Safdarjung Hospital by Delhi Police on Saturday, the 21st day of his hunger strike. He had launched an indefinite hunger strike on June 28 in support of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)-led agitation against alleged irregularities in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and alleged deaths of students linked to the controversy.
