Actress Gulfam Khan Hussain has voiced her concerns over the changing landscape of Indian television .



The veteran actress stated that many experienced performers are being replaced by "half-cooked talent" simply because they are more affordable as compared to the seasoned ones.



While acknowledging the improvements in production quality , the actress believes the creative standards have taken a hit.



"There have been some good things and some bad things. We now have AC floors and much better technology, the safety standards are much higher too, but the ratio of inflation versus payment has gone bad, the storytelling is weak and dragging. A lot of half-cooked talent has arrived and just because they are pocket-friendly they replace better ones," she said.



Despite the changing dynamics, Gulfam remains hopeful about continuing to portray layered characters that have defined much of her career.



When asked whether television still offers the kind of nuanced roles she has been known for, she replied, "It would be wrong to say that those kinds aren't written anymore. They are, hence I am still doing them and am hoping that I will get more."



The actress also expressed concern over the declining quality of storytelling on television, pointing out that many shows struggle to sustain audiences and are going off air within a short span.



According to Gulfam, the biggest issue lies in the lack of attention to detail and character development .



"Detailing, storytelling and character building are missing now. They don't have characters that take the story ahead anymore. Those small scenes where a neighbour's comment disrupts the calm of the household or those multiple family members who are in every scene, but what's their perspective? What's their contribution as a character?" she shared.



Drawing a comparison with earlier television dramas , Gulfam added, "Once upon a time, freeze points used to be on everyone who took the story to the next episode. Today it's only the main leads. How are we even forgetting the little pieces that complete the jigsaw?"



On the professional front, the adress has delivered many memorable performances in television shows such as 'Naamkarann', 'Bhagyalakshmi' and 'Diya Aur Baati Hum', as well as films including 'Laxmii', 'Dhanak' and 'Talaash' amongst many others.
