Aidal Singh Kansana Letter To Shivraj Singh Chouhan: Madhya Pradesh Government has once again requested the Central Government to increase the target of moong procurement. State Agriculture Minister Aidal Singh Kanshana has written a letter to Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan demanding to increase the target of moong procurement. In the letter, the minister has requested the Center to increase the procurement limit for the marketing year 2026-27, citing the condition of the farmers of the state and the moong production figures.

The Agriculture Minister said that the state government has already sent the proposal to the Center twice. In both the proposals sent on May 14 and July 3, 2026, Madhya Pradesh had demanded to set a target of 8.06 lakh metric tonnes of moong procurement. However, at present only a target of 4.54 lakh metric tonnes has been approved by the Central Government for the state. Expressing gratitude for the decision of the Central Government, the Minister has now reiterated the demand for increase in the target.

Moong cultivation done in 14.30 lakh hectares, production estimated at 20.16 lakh metric tonnes

The Agriculture Minister has also shared detailed figures to this year’s moong production in the letter. According to this, the area of ​​summer moong in the state is about 14.30 lakh hectares. Based on the estimates of the Agriculture Department, the productivity of moong this year has been estimated to be 1410 kg per hectare. Based on these figures, the total moong production in the state is estimated at around 20.16 lakh metric tonnes. The state government argues that when the production is so high, the procurement target should also be increased in the same proportion, so that more and more farmers can get the benefit of Minimum Support Price (MSP).

Last year the procurement was more than the target, this time too there is a need for increase

The minister has also given last year’s moong procurement figures in the letter. Last year, the Central Government had set a target of purchasing 4.19 lakh metric tonnes of moong for Madhya Pradesh, but a total of 7.72 lakh metric tonnes of moong was procured in the state. The state government says that last year’s figures prove that the demand and production capacity of moong in the state is quite high. In such a situation, it is necessary to increase the target set this year also, so that farmers do not face any problem in selling their produce.

3.47 lakh farmers got registered, facing problem due to limited target

This year, 3.47 lakh farmers have registered in the state for moong procurement. However, till now only 82 thousand farmers have sold their moong crop. The government believes that due to low procurement target, a large number of farmers are not able to take advantage of the procurement process. The minister said that it is necessary to increase the scope of procurement to provide fair value to the farmers for their hard work. This will increase the confidence of farmers and they will be encouraged to cultivate pulse crops in future also.

Suggested target of 8.06 lakh metric tons under price support scheme

Madhya Pradesh government has suggested to the Center to increase the target under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) as a solution. The minister has said that the remaining quota of states where summer moong production is less can be given to Madhya Pradesh.

The government proposes that with this system the state’s moong procurement target can be increased to about 40 percent of the total production, which will be about 8.06 lakh metric tons. Now lakhs of moong producing farmers of the state have their eyes fixed on the next decision of the Central Government. The state government hopes that a positive decision will be taken soon in the interest of the farmers.
