Strong earthquake tremors were felt in the southern part of Japan on Tuesday. According to preliminary information, the intensity of the earthquake was measured at 7.1. After the earthquake, an alert has been issued regarding tsunami in the coastal areas of Japan.


According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), the earthquake occurred in Kumamoto Prefecture in the Kyushu region. Due to the powerful tremors, panic spread among the people in many areas of southern Japan.


Warning issued for coastal areas


Immediately after the earthquake, the administration has issued a warning for the coastal areas. The weather agency has predicted waves up to 1 meter high in the sea.


Officials have appealed to people living in coastal areas to remain alert and move to safe places. At present, detailed information about the damage caused by the earthquake has not been revealed.
