Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary has made a big announcement in the famous Bharat Tiwari encounter case. The government has announced compensation to the victim's family and a government job to one member. Sharing the information on the social media platform 'X', the Chief Minister said that on the basis of the interim report of the Judicial Inquiry Commission, financial assistance will be provided to the family of late Bharat Tiwari and one of his relatives will be given a government job.
It is noteworthy that just a few days ago, Bharat Tiwari's family had reached Patna and met the Chief Minister and pleaded for justice. After that meeting, now the Chief Minister has talked about relief and help for the family.
Bharat Tiwari was encountered by the police on 17 June 2026 in Biloti village located in Shahpur police station area of Bhojpur district. Initially the police had claimed that Bharat Tiwari was waving a pistol and threatening the police, but despite surrendering his weapons, he was encountered. At the time of the incident, Bharat Tiwari was live on Facebook, from which it could be clearly seen that he had laid down his arms. Despite this the police opened fire on them.
Police had said that there were three bullets fired, but the post mortem report confirmed that there were five bullets fired. After this incident, huge public anger spread throughout Bhojpur. People took to the streets alleging a wrong encounter, after which the government had to bow down. The government constituted a judicial inquiry commission under the chairmanship of retired Justice Vinod Kumar Sinha. The statements of Bharat Tiwari's father Kashinath Tiwari, mother Asha Devi, family members and his brother have been recorded before the Commission.
The government is continuously taking strict steps in this matter. Police have arrested STF jawan Akshay Kumar, accused of firing the first shot. This action was implemented after the family members met the Chief Minister on July 24.
The matter even reached the Supreme Court, where a CBI investigation was demanded, although the apex court refused to hear it immediately. After this, on the application of Bharat Tiwari's mother, an FIR was registered against several policemen including the DSP.
After the interim report of the Judicial Inquiry Commission, Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary has made it clear that the government is fully active in this matter and the investigation is going on. Along with punishing the culprits, the family will be given financial help and a government job will be given to one member.
However, Bharat Tiwari's family has also put forward some other demands before the government:
Bharat Tiwari had no criminal record nor was there any previous case registered against him. After the arrest of the STF jawan, the hope of the family has been raised and they are confident of getting justice from Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary.
