SL vs IND 1st Test Day 3 Live: The second session of the third day of the first Test being played between India and Sri Lanka in Galle brought relief for the host team. Sri Lanka has scored 214 runs at the loss of 5 wickets in 57 overs till tea break. India had scored a huge score of 462 runs in the first innings, so Sri Lanka is still 248 runs behind.
Sri Lanka did not have a good start. Indian bowlers had put pressure on the host team by taking wickets continuously in the initial session. At one time Sri Lanka's score was 5 wickets for 90 runs, but after this Sonal Dinusha and Niroshan Dickwella took charge of the innings.
At the time of tea break, Sonal Dinusha was unbeaten on 62 runs in 115 balls. His innings included three fours and a six. On the other hand, wicketkeeper-batsman Niroshan Dickwella has scored unbeaten 71 runs on 102 balls. He has hit six fours so far.
An important partnership of 124 runs has been made between the two batsmen for the sixth wicket. This partnership brought Sri Lanka out of the situation where the team seemed to be under complete pressure in front of the Indian bowlers.
Indian spinners played an important role in taking the first five wickets of Sri Lanka. Ravindra Jadeja sent captain Dhananjaya de Silva to the pavilion on the score of 21 runs, while Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Kamindu Mendis on 14 runs. Manav Suthar also made an impact on his Test debut, taking the wickets of Lahiru Udara and Dinesh Chandimal.
Fast bowler Mohammad Siraj gave initial success to India by dismissing Nishan Fernando. In this way, India's bowlers did not give Sri Lanka's middle order a chance to survive.
Earlier, India ended its first innings at 462 runs. Devdutt Padikkal played a brilliant inning of 167 runs and made an important contribution in taking India to a big score. KL Rahul scored 82 runs, while Dhruv Jurel scored a brilliant half-century and scored 51 runs. For Sri Lanka, Prabhat Jayasuriya took four wickets and debutant Keshara Nuwantha took three wickets.
Team India displayed excellent batting performance in the first two days of the first Test being played between India and Sri Lanka in Galle. The Indian team, which won the toss and came to bat first, ended its first innings by scoring 462 runs in 116.4 overs. The biggest story of this innings of India was the brilliant century of Devdutt Padikal, who scored 167 runs facing 230 balls. His innings included 15 fours and one six.
Padikal not only batted with patience but also adopted an aggressive approach as per the need against the Sri Lankan spinners. This innings was special for Padikkal, who was playing in the third Test, because he scored his first century in Test cricket and also made the best score of his career.
KL Rahul's role was also very important in strengthening India's innings. He scored 82 runs on 175 balls. Rahul hit 10 fours and one six in his innings. In the initial phase, he along with Padikal provided stability to the Indian innings and kept the Sri Lankan bowlers under constant pressure.
The partnership between Rahul and Padikal gave India a chance to recover from the initial setback. Rahul had gone out of the field for some time due to injury, but after his return he took his innings forward and was out after scoring 82 runs.
Dhruv Jurel also made important contributions in the middle order. He played a brilliant inning of 51 runs in 68 balls. Jurel's innings included four fours and one six. His half-century came at a time when the Sri Lankan spinners were trying to put pressure on the Indian batsmen.
Jurel also formed a useful partnership with Mainav Suthar and helped India cross the 450-run mark. His innings ended the long wait for a half-century.
However, India could not bat in a completely one-sided manner. Sri Lankan spinners made a comeback in the last part of the innings. Prabhat Jayasuriya took four wickets for 109 runs, while debutant Keshara Nuvantha took three wickets for 175 runs. These two spinners played an important role in the seven wickets that India fell.
Despite this, the Indian batsmen did not give Sri Lanka a chance to take a big lead in the match. The second day's play was also affected by rain and play remained off the field for a long time. Despite this, India managed to reach 460/9 and were all out for 462 runs at the start of the third day.
After the tea break, India will try to break the partnership of Dinusha and Dickwella quickly. There is not much batting left in Sri Lanka's lower order, so India will look at these two wickets as the turning point in the match.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka will try to make both the batsmen make a long partnership and take the team closer to India's score. At present the match situation is in favor of India, but the partnership of Dickwella and Dinusha has definitely given Sri Lanka hope of making a comeback in the match.
