Villagers beat up CJP activists in Jaipur, chasing them down and thrashing them; the activists were on their way to a government school.

Bagru Deputy Superintendent of Police Dharmendra Sharma said that he is not aware of any such incident.

Jaipur. The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) team faced opposition from villagers during their visit to the government primary school in Bagru assembly constituency of Jaipur on Friday. It is alleged that the local people chased these workers out of the village and protested against them.

The incident took place at the government primary school in Rampura-Kanwarpura where CJP workers had come to take stock of the condition of the building and talk to the students and teachers. The police have expressed ignorance about such incidents. Bagru Deputy Superintendent of Police Dharmendra Sharma said that he was not aware of any such incident.

According to reports, even before the CJP workers reached the village, the villagers had put up barricades on the main road and were checking the vehicles coming into the village. After this there was a clash between the villagers and the CJP workers, after which the workers were thrown out of the area.

Later the villagers staged a protest outside the school and raised slogans against CJP. Local residents and BJP workers said that the school could be repaired with local efforts. He claimed that the government has already sanctioned funds for this work.

The school building has been declared unsafe and closed to students. At present, classes are being held in the animal shed near the school building. CJP had said that its workers would visit two government schools in Jaipur on Friday to take stock of the education system, infrastructure and facilities provided to students.

The event is taking place amid the ongoing controversy over the entry of outsiders and members of the media into government schools in Rajasthan. After the announcement of inspection of school buildings by CJP members, the Education Department had banned outsiders and media persons from entering schools without any concrete reason. CJP co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka criticized the state government over these restrictions and accused the Education Minister of trying to hide the condition of government schools.

Ranka told journalists, the Education Minister is adopting a dictatorial attitude to hide the poor condition of education in Rajasthan. We will not be afraid of government orders. Our mission will continue until the condition of all government schools in Rajasthan improves.
