The Board of Control for Cricket in India has called for a crucial review meeting at its Mumbai headquarters this Thursday. Head coach Gautam Gambhir, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, and Centre of Excellence chief VVS Laxman will all be present to take a hard look at India's recent performances and chart a clear roadmap for the team moving forward.

T20 captain Shreyas Iyer and ODI/Test captain Shubman Gill are also likely to attend the session, which signals just how seriously the BCCI is treating this review.

Why this meeting was called

This review was originally supposed to happen right after India's disappointing tours of Ireland and England. But the team's two-Test series in Sri Lanka pushed those plans back, and now the board wants to cover everything in one comprehensive session. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia and president Mithun Manhas will also be at the table.

England, Ireland, and beyond: what's being reviewed

India's form has taken a noticeable dip. The reigning T20 World Cup champions lost both matches in Ireland, going down 2-0 in June. Things didn't get any better in England, where they were whitewashed 4-0 in the five-match T20I series the 125-run defeat at Nottingham being the most painful of the lot. Under Shubman Gill's leadership, India also lost the ODI series in England 2-1.

But a source close to the board revealed that the review won't stop at those two tours. "Not just the tours of the UK, but the tours of Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka will be reviewed as well," the source said, indicating that the board wants a full assessment of India's overseas struggles across the board.

Injuries: the growing concern

One of the biggest talking points in the meeting is expected to be player fitness and injury management. India has a two-Test series coming up in New Zealand in November, and the BCCI is worried about the frequent breakdowns that have disrupted the squad on overseas tours.

After the third ODI against England at Lord's, Gill expressed his frustration openly, pointing out how injuries kept derailing the team's plans during key moments.

Jasprit Bumrah, for instance, had to sit out the Sri Lanka tour after aggravating his left knee injury. And even for the upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan, announced just this Tuesday, four players are still uncertain: Bumrah, Washington Sundar, Nitish Reddy, and Harshit Rana. All four are scheduled to undergo fitness tests at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru on September 9, and their availability will depend on those results.

The meeting is expected to produce a clear action plan—both for the upcoming New Zealand Tests and for managing player workloads more smartly in the long run. With two of India's biggest captains in attendance and the board's top brass present, this review could shape the team's direction for months to come.
